Cloud storage consists of data storage or file hosting on the Internet where businesses and consumers can upload any data to a third party’s servers (usually large companies) that can be consulted or downloaded at a later time.
Its accessibility and great security has turned cloud storage into a fundamental Internet tool which we can use to both have a separate backup of our computer or smartphone as well as upload large files or shared files and folders with other users.
Due to its popularity, we can find a large number of cloud storage services, both free and paid (if we are looking for something more professional or with greater storage capacity). We have compiled a small list of the best FREE cloud storage systems which, although they have some limitations in their free version, may be sufficient for what most people need.
Google Drive: Probably the best known Internet storage service. Each user has 15 GB of free space to store their files, expandable through different payment plans. Google Drive is accessible through its website from computers and has applications for Android and iOS that allow you to edit documents and spreadsheets.
Dropbox: Another of the most popular systems on the web. Dropbox provides users with 2 GB of free storage in the cloud, which we can later expand up to 18 GB by performing some tasks. We can upload all types of files to the cloud, although bandwidth is limited to 20 GB per day, making it an excellent choice for individuals but perhaps not the best for businesses.
iCloud: Apple’s platform for cloud storage. In this tool, we are provided 5 GB when registering as owners of an Apple device. Its operation is excellent and it is a perfect way to have a backup of our device’s data, as well as having quick access to all types of files that we upload to the cloud.
Amazon Drive: The e-commerce giant also has a free cloud storage option, called “Amazon Drive.” It is still under development and updates and improvements are expected, but at the moment it offers us a free 5 GB space.
OneDrive: Microsoft’s cloud storage service. With this service you can store photographs, videos, and all kinds of files and documents, offering 5 GB for free. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows computers, Mac and iOS, Android or Windows Phone platforms.
MediaFire: With this veteran file storage system we can have up to 50 GB for free in the cloud, although we will have to share the links and meet certain conditions to obtain this space. You can upload files up to 25 GB in size.
MEGA: The heiress of the well-known Megaupload provides us with 50 GB of cloud storage for free. Accepts all types of files, including compressed files, although their bandwidth limit is 10 GB every half hour. It is accessible from both a computer and mobile devices.
Yandex.disk: A service that has gone somewhat unnoticed up until now but that has not stopped growing since its launch, offering 10 GB of free storage.
Sync: This platform offers us 5 GB of storage and has the advantage of an interesting file recovery system in case we deleted one by mistake.
